Southwest Ranches Fire Rescue History

Southwest Ranches Fire Rescue proudly protects 10,000 people living in an area of 16 square miles. We operate out of one station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

Southwest Ranches Fire Rescue was formerly the Southwest Broward Volunteer Fire Department. The Southwest Broward Volunteer Fire Department was formerly the Davie Volunteer Fire Department until 1980 when Davie no longer required the services of a volunteer fire department. Southwest Broward Volunteer Fire Dept. was founded in 1983 with the remaining active volunteer firefighters from the Davie Volunteer Fire Department. In 2001 the Southwest Broward Volunteer Fire Dept. became the Southwest Ranches Volunteer Fire Rescue, taking the name of the new town that the department covers. We run the majority of our calls with Broward County Fire Rescue stations 67, 81, and 55, which cover the City of Weston, and Davie Fire Rescue station 91.
