Recycling

Residential Recycling Collection Service is provided by Southern Waste Systems (SWS) on the first of your two (2) solid waste days i.e. Monday (Area 1), Tuesday (Area 2), and Wednesday (Area 3). Recycling items should be placed curbside no later than 7:00AM on your designated collection day in appropriate recycling bins separated by paper in one bin and plastic/cans/bottles in the other. Residents are strongly encouraged to recycle as much as possible. The State of Florida mandates a recycling rate of 30%, however Broward County is currently at a 24% recycling rate, with a programs objective from the Resource Recovery Board to be at the 30% as soon as possible, so every bit helps and we must work together. Look at materials and areas in your household where you can recycle. For example, cardboard boxes should be broken down and placed curbside on your recycling day for the recycling truck to pick-up not the solid waste truck. For those materials not accepted in the County’s recycling stream, for example, wire hangers or styrofoam, check your local shipping store, they may accept the peanut styrofoam or donate to local non-profit organizations or creative re-use education centers in Broward County.

If you require a recycling bin, please notify Southern Waste System at 888-800-7732. Each resident is entitled to the replacement of one (1) set of lost, destroyed or stolen recycling bins during the life of the contract at no cost to the customer. The cost of replacing more than one (1) set of recycling bins per customer during the life of the contract due to loss, theft or destruction, is charged to the customer at $7.00 per bin. Residents must pay SWS directly in order to receive the bins, either over the phone with a credit card or by mailing a check; there is no COD available. Recycling bins are hand delivered by SWS within ten (10) working days. Obtain a five (5) digit confirmation number before disconnecting with the SWS representative so that you may check the status of your bin delivery should that become necessary.

Kindly remember that recycling bins must be placed within three (3) feet of the curb or swale area providing safe and efficient accessibility to the collection crew and vehicle, however, not obstructing roadways, sidewalks or mailboxes.
