FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Question: Can I dispose of my vegetative debris with my residential/household waste?

Answer: No. Your vegetative debris is to be reserved for your bulk days, which are two (2) times per month and limited to twelve (12) cubic yards (6 feet wide x 12 feet long x 4.5 feet high). You may check the Town’s web-site at www.southwestranches.org for your specific bulk collection dates. Vegetative waste should not be placed out as household garbage for the rear-end loader (green trucks) to pick-up. When the rear-loader services household garbage, it is taken to the Wheelerbrator waste-to-energy facility and the truck is tipped at $96.86 per ton. This is billed to the Town and ultimately passed on down to you in your waste assessment, whereas, when you put your vegetative debris out on your bulk day and the clamshell services your yard waste, this is taken to the Delta facility in Davie and is tipped at a rate of $45.00 per ton – almost half the price. Since the majority of the bulk produced in the ranches is of a vegetative nature, the lesser tipping price is beneficial.

Additionally, there is FREE & UNLIMITED yard waste drop off available on Saturday between 8am and 4pm at selected drop off locations across Broward County. This information, including drop-off locations can be found on the Town’s web-site on the ‘Bulk Waste” page and it runs every month in the Town’s newsletter as well.
